Trying to find the best vineyard to visit in the South of France can seem like an overwhelming task. So many wineries, lots of regions to explore and a lot of wine to choose from. Well look no further than Domaine des Jeanne, South of France in a glass. Situated in the Luberon in Provence, with vineyards in Oppède set between the ocean and the mountains, it’s a picture perfect place to visit.
Domaine des Jeanne have a new card up their sleeve though, not only can you visit the winery and enjoy the stunning surroundings, now you can dine in the newly opened Le Petit Café des Jeanne in Oppède le Vieux. The tiny village (home to just 25 residents) is straight out of a Disney fairytale. With old rose bushes and wisteria lining the faded pink plaster walls, cobblestone streets around the main square of this historical hill-top village, there’s no better place to enjoy a glass of Domaine des Jeanne wine.
If it’s vineyard vibes in one of the best vineyards in the South of France you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the right place. Not only is every corner of the region extremely Instagrammable, but the wine speaks for itself. The rich minerals of the Luberon’s soil contribute to the premium quality grapes that go into the red, white, rosé and sparkling wines made here. The area benefits from sun throughout the year, but if you’re looking to visit then spring and autumn are the perfect times, when it is a little cooler.
All the surrounding towns and villages ooze the laid back yet sophisticated Provençal lifestyle. Ménerbes, Gordes and L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are all must visits for gorgeous cafés, curious boutiques and of course sitting outside in the sun sipping on a glass of Domaine des Jeanne rosé wine – you’ll find it on the menu of many bars and restaurants and on the shelves of the local shops.
The region is less than an hour from Marseille Provence Airport and the roads are easy to drive. Just a couple of hours on a flight from the UK or Ireland and you could be in one of the best vineyards in the South of France. The saying ‘Rosé all day’ has never been more appropriate than when visiting this region. Domaine des Jeanne rosé is crisp and dry and extremely easy to drink with a peaches and cream texture. Winemaker Alexendre Samour is as serious as making rosé as he is about white wine, blending varieties to create the perfect harmony of complexity, texture and aroma.
